Chiropractic care in pregnancy…

Published by thepregnantlady at 5:36 pm under pregnancy Edit This

During my last pregnancy, I suffered from severe back pain.  It was so bad at one point, I ended up in the emergency room.  I couldn’t walk, breath, move, sit, stand or lay down without crying.  The “lovely” ER doc advised Tylenol with codeine and bed rest as the remedy.  He also decided it was his personal mission to frighten me away from chiropractic care by insisting it would put me in early labor and cause me to lose my baby.

Of course, stupid me listened to the doc, slept sitting up on the couch for 6 weeks and became so constipated from the codeine I was bleeding every time I went to the bathroom.  Not a single person suggested I see a chiropractor.

Now, I’ve learned better.  My lack of chiro care probably contributed to DD’s inability to descend during labor, causing my labor to eventually stall out despite massive amounts of pitocin.  I’ve already begun the search for a chiropractor in my area that will treat pregnant patients.  None here are certified in the Webster techniques for helping with breech babies, but I’ll take what I can get this time.

Interesting - I can bet my doc wouldn’t suggest this either although he might be open to discussing it if I brought it up. It’s so difficult to get good pregnancy advice. I find that the docs/hospitals are so ingrained to medical methods that they are often closed to anything else. Unfortunately, I find that natural pregnancy/childbirth advocates have the same prejudices against the docs so it’s up to women to find a bridge between the two (which is where I personally want to be). It would be nice if there were clearer and less hostile communication between medical and natural establishments . . .
